Painting paneling on kitchen walls

Could paneling be painted? It has somewhat of a shine to it. And what can I use to paint other than costly removing it.

Yes you can! Lightly sand to remove any shine and roughen the surface for paint. Prime with KILZ, BIN, or Zinsser primer. Then paint with your color.

Ugh this is so ugly. You think after sanding priming,painting I could top it off with a decorative trim or would that be too much.
