Painting carpets with chalk paint

Has anyone ever tried to paint a carpet with chalk paint? Did you find that it went hard? Did you seal it with wax? I have seen some postw where stenciling has been very successful but I am looking to paint he whole carpet. I would really appreciate any feedback on this idea as I don't want to buy a whole new carpet for a rental property. Thank you for your help and ideas.

Make sure your landord is aware of anything you around the property and get his /her permission in writing. Painting or dying carpeting is a hit or miss. What is the carpet made of, what is the current color, what kind of pile does it have. I 've never done it and probably wouldn't consider it.

Hello not sure about paint I have however dyed carpet with rit dye in a large sprayer. Mixed it up sprayed it on till wet let dry a couple hours then used a carpet shampooer to extract as much moisture as possible. When it is fully dry I shampooed again to get up any residue. Worked even better on upholstery.
    • U can actually put dye in the shampooer and dye the carpet that way. Super easy. I'm curious about using diluted chalk paint in my shampooer since it's clay based it does work like a dye. Just thinking I should clean the machine very quickly so none of the paint can harden.

I chalk painted a couch. It did stiffen up with drying, but with use has softened up quite a bit and is quite comfortable. If you have berber carpet, you may be able to do it, but I will tell you from experience that it takes a very stiff brush and a lot of paint! I like the dye in a spray bottle idea! :)
