How about curtains (light weight cotton, maybe gingham or French Country rooster print), with a rod at top and bottom of each opening but placed on the inside of the door. She could leave the doors open and hang stuff from the rod and display china....

What about leave the glass as it is but put something like fabric or fancy paper or wallpaper on it so that it shows through on the front and compliments anything else you are going to do to it? Are you painting it??

There isn't any glass in it right now and she wasn't sure if she wanted to replace it.
  • I would think punched metal for inserts (like the old pie safes). Or fabric of her choice tightly stretched to give some color and hide what is inside.

I prefer the open look so you can see whats in there unless its for storage. How about a little color on the back, perhaps wallpaper, stenciling, paint, even decoupage
