Is it necessary to have two chairs in a formal living room?

Almost finished decorating my living room well at least for the time being. My color palette is cream (the sofa and love seat). turqouise blue, and brown (the coffee, end tables and console.) I also have a beautiful turqouise blue and brown armless accent chair I purchased about a year ago from Hayneedle online I guess they discontinued it because I cant find it anywhere on line Lately I have looked on decor sites, and they usually show a living room space with two chairs sitting across from the sofa. My question, Is it necessary to have two chairs to have a finished look in the living room.I have the sofa, loveseat and the chair sitting at a diagonal across from the coffee table I thought it looked finished but now I'm not so sure. Any thoughts?

  • Decorating is a matter of choice. To make sure the room looks finished with your chair I would make sure you have an end table next to it and either have it in a nook as a "reading area" or part of the living room facing in to the other furniture. It sounds as if you already have it as "part of the living room". that is trick to furniture placement~conversation areas or reading nooks. Room sounds beautiful.

    • @Cindy Yes, many times you have 2 identical chairs but they do not always have to be by each other or be identical. Sometimes a piece thrown in that conjures up conversation or even sentimental memory is what makes a living room cozy. I would find and pair a chair similar in shape and maybe in brown or leather so not to compete with the beautiful chair you love.
