Our Dining Room Makeover

Welcome to our Dining Room! This room leads right off our living room and into our kitchen. It’s one of our favorite rooms and gets such pretty sunlight during the day. We fell in love with this room because of the beautiful French doors and HUGE moldings. Right out the French doors is a small patio and we have a bistro set out there right now. We painted this room and the Living Room a taupe shade, or at least that’s how it looked on the swatch…lol, and it came out a little lavender/pink tone. To be honest I’m not crazy about the color in the rest of the house but I do like it in the dining room since it’s more feminine. I’ll fill you in on the great buy on our dining room set down below too. See the rug in the picture, that was free. We were buying some bedding from a woman on Craig’s List and she was so nice she gave us this Simply Shabby Chic Rug for FREE. What a nice gift and it was carried at Target for $180 a while back. We have met such nice people on Craig’s list and many times they have given or thrown in something extra too. This table lamp Chandelier came from my Grandmother and Grandfather’s house and I always loved it as a child. I told everyone I wanted it someday and was so happy to have it passed on to me. I’m not sure if I’m going to add candles to it or have it rewired yet. I just love all the dripping crystals and it’s so much fun to clean too…lol. The mirror I found thifting and I loved the cream and gold antique look it has. I got it for $10. This buffet is so wonderful. The top flips open so you can add more food platters and bowls while entertaining too.
Our dining room set was a wonderful Craig’s List find. Do you ever use Craig’s List? It’s pretty fabulous. I had never used it and a friend told me how wonderful it was. People actually sell their furniture for some great deals. I had been looking for a Dining Room Set and knew we couldn’t buy it new. My hubs said if I could coordinate this with our move he would go pick it up with the big Moving Truck. The owner had it listed for $1200 and it’s Lexington Furniture too. I called the owner. We coordinated picking it up the night before our move right after we got the truck. She accepted our offer of $1000 for the Dining Room Table, 8 chairs, two leaves, huge light up Hutch, buffet and table covers. We were thrilled. The hutch is so tall and massive……and heavy. It took 6 guys and my husband to get it out of her home on it’s side and into the truck. It was several hours to get it all packed and my husband wanted to kill me. It was so worth it though. The dining room table is so great for entertaining. We do a lot of Sunday night dinners so it’s perfect for family dinners and our dining room leads into our living room so everyone can be all together during parties too. My previous home was all shabby n chic and tons of roses everywhere. I changed our décor so my husband would feel comfortable too but kept a lot of the roses in this room and our kitchen nook and he’s ok with that. A friend gave me those two cute pictures too and of course I love the roses here too. The chandelier hanging in here came with the house. I actually like it and haven’t found anything yet I like better but when I do I’m sure I’ll change it. That’s our Dining Room Tour. A lot of big dinners happen here, conversations about friends and kids laughing and arguing and some mean game nights take place. During the day the lighting is so pretty I find myself sitting here to do my work and type my blog posts too. I hope you like it. This room leads into our Kitchen and Kitchen Nook. Lots more pictures on the blog and take a tour of the rest of our house too. - Thanks for stopping by and have a great day, Lisa

I inherited my moms classic dining room table with leaf extension, two captain chairs, four tall back dining chairs, and china cabinet, all in dark wood. I entertain the idea of painting it to brighten the space, as my dining and living room are an L-shaped connection, but am leary to paint over the original finish! Any feelings on this?
    • @Kim Hi Kim, oh, the set sounds beautiful!! I think you have to be sure you are ready!! Once you paint there is not going back!! So if you're not ready than wait. You could add slipcovers and or a tablecloth to lighten it up. Some people are just painting the chairs. When you're ready, you'll know. Have a great day, Lisa
