Can you put vinyl over a tile floor?

Our tile floor is cracked in many places, can vinyl be laid over it?

    I wouldn't advise it. The cracks will eventually travel up through the vinyl as the movement from those cracked tiles wear out the vinyl flooring from underneath. This will happen faster in higher traffic areas.

    I agree with Pamela. It can be done, but too much prep work involved to get it right. The tile floor would need to be sanded, self leveling floor cement put down, then the new floor over that.
  • We have installed LVT or floated vinyl plank flooring over tile after using floor leveler to smooth the grout line with excellent results The vinyl planks are much thicker than sheet vinyl and don't conform to minor imperfections and since it is not adhered to the tile it is more forgiving to movement.

    You should not put vinyl over tile. Vinyl is soft and eventually will mold itself to the grouted grooves in your tile. The tile has to be removed. I love my vinyl!
