Douglas Hunt on Nov 07, 2013Potting up paperwhites was a seasonal ritual when I lived up north. Here in Florida I plant them in the ground.

Catherine Smith on Nov 07, 2013Lovely flowers, but smell terrible! I prefer tulips, hyacinths or daffys for forcing.

Douglas Hunt on Nov 08, 2013@Catherine Smith Have you tried one of the yellow-flowered types like Grand Soleil d'Or. They are sometimes "less assertive." For instance, Brent and Becky's Bulbs describes that one as having a "wonderful, delicate, sweet fragrance," not words you would use to describe the common paper white.

Catherine Smith on Nov 08, 2013@Douglas Hunt I'll have to check that out. I love the bulbs from Brent and Becky's. They are "local" and have given a couple of seminars on bulb growing to the Master Gardeners. Fascinating people to talk to and their products are very, very high quality. I have to leave the checkbook at home...LOL
