In my series reviewing speciality paint products, I of course had to do a comprehensive review of the Original Annie Sloan Chalk Paints and Waxes! I include my experience, links to purchase, and links to some of the best tutorials.
One of my very favorite shades, French Linen. Here it is distressed to show peek a boo primer.
Great coverage after even one coat.
Annie Sloan waxes. The large wax brush is worth the money!
I think this is the most beautiful paint palette out there.

I want to paint my bathroom vanities in AS paint. I have never tried and I'm not sure how to get started. My vanities are all white. Any suggestions or tips to help me get started. Thanks!

@Tracy Martin Hi Tracy! You will love working with AS chalk paints. The hardest part is really picking your color since they are all gorgeous. No need to prep. I just wipe down any piece I am working on for dirt and dust. Next, apply AS as you would any paint. Coverage is excellent. Usually just a lighter 2nd coat. For my second coat or any touch up coat, I dip the tip of by brush in water and then the paint to get a really smooth layer. It dries quickly and then you can distress if you like with sanding block. I distress before waxing so I can go back in and touch things up if I want. Then I wax using the waxing brush. Annie Sloan's website has some good videos too. Best of luck and feel free to contact me if you have any more questions or run into any problems. Debbi

I have been using AS chalk paints for a few years; the colors are truly fresh and crisp. The cost for them is kind of high, but they do cover well on first coat, The paint is worth the cost. I have also used other chalk paints that I have found at the following retailers (Lowes, Walmart, Menards, Hobby Lobby, Michaels). These NON-AS chalk paints are more affordable, cover just as well and have several pleasing colors. I do love the AS Dark and Clear Wax the best, but the one I bought at Lowes works just as well and is not as costly. I have found that after I lay down the one or two coats of paint, I use the clear wax to seal it and then I use the dark wax to give dimension; but lately I have been using Fine (000) steel wool to rub in the dark wax vs a cloth. The finish is gorgeous. My hubby thought I had purchased a new piece of furniture (desk) instead of it being a garage sale find. I am not a chalk paint snob, I will try all of them regardless of price or color. It's fun finding new ways to paint. The last few pieces I have worked on came out really nice and it's hard to get rid of them. My hubby is starting to call me a HOARDER (of paints, waxes, brushes and anything that needs painting). Don't be afraid to try chalk paint. I started by painting a small jewelry box. It turned out well and if it hadn't, I would have started over or thrown it away.

It has been so nice to see other companies create chalk paint products that are more affordable! I have recently begun experimenting with some of the other brands and I like them! Thank you for sharing your steel wool tip too!
