How to decorate a mud room?

How big your mudroom is may make the difference.  If you  have your washer and dryer in one area and want the tv and chairs in another area, you could hang some conduit or pvc pipes from the ceiling and use twin sized flat bed sheets to make a 'wall' in front of the washer and dryer.  We did that for a loft area so that we could partition it off as a guest bedroom and it worked perfectly!  If you take a flat sheet and cut a slit in the top corners you can slide them right onto a pole like curtains.  Then you can open them and close them depending on when you are using the washer and dryer.  Then just decorate the room as if it were another family room.  Good luck!
