These two photos show two different plants growing side by side, I think one is a weed tree, can anyone help me? Let me know if I need to take better shot of them to help identify. Thank you.

I'm not real sure about either, but the second looks like it could be a wild blackberry bush.

that was my initial reaction to the second photo as well, blackberries or some other bramble. First picture is too generic to tell.

You need to get a picture when they produce flowers or berries. That would help in identifying a bit more.

It hasn't produced any kind of flower or berry.

@Sally Most berries produce fruit on 2nd year canes. The first year they just grow but next year the canes that grew the year before should produce fruit if they're a berry. There are thornless berry varieties but you usually have to buy them from a nursery. Do they (2nd picture) have thorns?

First one looks like a Beauty Berry bush. Does it make round purple berries?

I can't say that I have ever seen any berries on it.

Except for the lack of flowers, the first reminds me of Jewel Weed...

No thorns. This has been in the ground and growing for about 2-3 years at least. I just let it keep growing. I'm thinking its just a weed tree. There is another smaller plant under it that I think might be worth keeping. I'm pretty sure I planted that one, but not this possible "berry" plant.

That bottom picture......it looks like a raspberry bush to me. When you prep your yard and garden for winter, do you cut off or cut back the main stem on it?

The top photo appears to be buckthorn, a terrible invasive.
