Removing Ink Stains From Laminate Countertop

Ok. So. One afternoon, I tossed the mail on my laminate kitchen counter and went about my business. Well, two days later when I finally got around to picking it up, I got a very unpleasant surprise. The counter must have been wet underneath the paper pile and the ink from a sale flier had leeched into my counter.
Disaster.

I chose laminate countertops on purpose and I have loved them from the moment we renovated our kitchen....you can see that transformation by clicking here.

Until now, they were totally pristine. I was so upset and convinced that stain was there to stay.

Once I cleared the paper away, my first instinct was to grab a brillo pad or some kind of soft scrubbing cleanser...but I knew that was wrong.

And I really wasn't ready to repair anything else in this room...like when I had to fix this chair. Ugh.

Soap and water wasn't doing anything. I was desperate.

I don't know what made me grab olive oil, but I did and I dumped it straight on the stain.

I scrubbed the spot in a circular motion with a dry paper towel and the stain started to fade!

This shot shows the countertop with the stain 95% gone. Eventually, it totally disappeared.

I have no idea why it worked or what else it might remove, but now I know if this ever happens to me again, I have a solution. Phew.

I have had the same issue with the countertops and have found that plain WHITE toothpaste (not the gel type) and some paper towels will get stains out of laminate countertops with no damage to the surface- my experience was with a black sharpie marker that got on my white laminate..... the stain is completely gone!

A magic eraser will too. I use it all the time and it hasn't hurt the finish at all.
