I picked this table up for $95.00. The finish and stain was flaking off. As I cleaned it the stain came off of it. The table is walnut. The top was sanded down with 229 grout sand paper. I went slow because I didn't want any mistakes. I barely hand sanded the rest if it. The dust was bad. I painted it three coats with CeCe Old white. I let dry I between coats, then I out three coats in of wax letting each cure for a day or so. I stained the top with walnut and polyurethane. Three coats sanding in between with a egg shell finish. I then used aging wax in small sections and cover the white. I know this is more than most but I wanted a real age worn look, use steel wool the finishing one 0000, and took off the wax, then used 220 grit sand paper and went over it again very lightly not down to the wood. Actually rubbing with a cloth is what took the paint off in each area. A barely wet cloth. Chairs are next and then china hutch. I will let this table cure 30 days before use, just me but if I don't it always comes back to me.
This is done in CeCe old white, waxed and sealed with satin. Walnut stain was used for the top. This is a walnut table. Sealed with egg shell polyurethane.

That's very pretty. You did an amazing job. I've been wondering about the whole wax thing. Does it not remain sticky or tacky? Did you polyurethane over the top of the wax? I'm getting closer to trying some chalk paint.

the sealer I used over the wax has carnauba wax in it that's a liquid form of wax. You can't put polyurethane over wax it won't set. Because this finish was so old I was clueless about the finish I wanted it to be safe. The top was sanded down to wood re-stained and polyurethane. If you want ever thing sealed but want the aged look you can use paint and water ( brown) or you can use Walnut stain or a brown stain then wipe it off. Then seal it. On white furniture I love this wax. a little little costs $9.00 and last me for 5 months. It depends on the color I am using on the furniture.
