How to Turn a Pane of Glass Into a Chalkboard

I've had a pane of glass that's been sitting in a closet ever since I used the frame for another project. I needed to use that glass, so I decided to turn it into a chalkboard and to use it as a Menu Board. I plan to use it at Thanksgiving to greet my guests and let them know the menu for our holiday dinner.
A pane of glass turned into a Chalkboard Menu board for the Thanksgiving holiday.
I used Fall garland to trim the edges.
A menu board is a great way to let your guest know what delicious treats they are in store for!
I started with a pane of glass and used Glass Chalkboard Paint to create the chalkboard.
I attached the garland to the side of the glass with hot glue.
Wired garland is perfect for this project.

You can also make a message board out of a picture frame with glass. Larger ones are usually better. Just make it look like you want it to and then use dry erase markers to do your message on the glass. I have made several. One I made went for $75.00 last year at the high school reunion.

Does regular chalkboard paint such as Valspar and Rustoleum work on glass as well. I was worried about it scratching off.
    • @Rosemary Palmer For another project, I painted a mirror with Valspar Chalkboard paint. At first, when it was dry, it did seem like it was going to scratch off easily. I left it alone and let it cure for over 30 days. When I went back to it, it was fine. I can't guarantee you'll have the same result, but that was my experience. Hope that helps...
