I need to get the air from coming in the windows. Can I just caulk?

My windows leak air can I caulk around the inside of them?

  • I would not caulk the window itself unless you never want to open the window and you do not want the hassle of removing the caulking. Use the shrink plastic window kits sold at Walmart for under $13 and it will look neater and be easier than trying to caulk the windows. do not buy the cheap plastic kits at the dollar stores~they stink and the tape does not stick. You will find by putting plastic on the windows you will cut down the airflow a lot. Plus the plastic when you carefully use the blow dryer to shrink it, is hard to tell you even have plastic on.

    I have done this but my cat seems to tear them. Maybe I could learn how to do some caulking inside?

    If this is the only window in a room, it must be kept operable in case it's needed for emergency escape! Try rope caulk, which is easily removable when it's time to open the window, in the meantime, learn where, and where not, windows can be caulked and if glazing putty is missing around the panes, have them reglazed...make sure the top & bottom sashes close all the way too or you'll have monster air leaks...
