There is an amazing Hometalk video about how to clean brass: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/clean/house/ketchup-brass-polish-18476842
Love this. I wish I had brass to clean so that I could try it!!
Clean Brass With Ketchup (Really!)
muriatic acid. just swipe in on then lightly polish.
You can also try plain white non-gel toothpaste.
For large items use ketchup. For smaller items I use white toothpaste (not gel) and a damp tooth brush. I use both for items I sell on Ebay. The toothpaste also works on silver and gold jewelry. Gets in all knooks and crannies. Shines up gemstones also without any damage. Rinse and dry.
for pots and other durable items, copper Kleen King...works like scrubbing powder on brass and other copper based metals. Ketchup is not any safer . They are both just acid.
Very happy you made my work easier.

Homemade Brass Polish Recipe (For Un-lacquered Brass)
Ingredients:
Directions:
Mix the ingredients together in equal amounts to make a paste.
Next, rub the paste onto the un-lacquered brass and wait about an hour.
After the hour is up rinse the paste off the brass and dry thoroughly.
Use a dry soft cloth to buff the brass to make it shine.
I use this recipe all the time and it works really well. Happy cleaning!
