Use an oil based paint. Expect 2 to 3 coats of paint to get a nice even coverage. Make sure the door is either off or propped open well when painting to get all the nooks and crannies. and make sure to give each coat a lot of dry time (longer in the cool weather)

You'll know from my answer I love reading about DIY projects, but doing them...not so much! That being said, Lowe's has an awesome appliance sale going on. But only through the end of this month. And white is generally the least expensive. Happy to help in my own inept way!! LOL!

I agree with William, there is a great product out there for spray painting appliances and it works great. I know there is the same product for brush painting as well. You can buy it at Home Depot and other stores. Post some photos of your project for us to see!

I'd love to see how it turns out. I have new stainless steel in my mid-century modern house (the appliances came with the house) and I wish they were a different color, more mid-century appropriate! I don't want to ruin them, though... they are brand-new and all...

My dad repaired cars/trucks, etc when they had been wrecked, even as far back as late 1950's, 60's, and the people still do this with beautiful results. My point is that even then he would spray paint refrigerators, freezers, and metal cabinets, etc. If you have a nice appliance, take it to a paint and body shop. You could get a bid first if you want. I am telling my age but Dad painted Mom's refrigerator "copper tone" which a 2 color pattern. Looked like the new ones in the stores. You should have seen the 'cherry red Chevy"we had. Talk of the town! They use the professional spray guns and high power compressors so it comes our even and smooth.

I agree and was going to suggest that. A friend of mine had a new kitchen and had all her appliances done that way--they were stunning.
