Use An Old Piece Of Fence For A Christmas Painting

A while back I picked up some old fencing from my neighbor’s trash pile. I created a beach sign from the gate but still had a piece of the fence in the garage. I decide to use it to make a Christmas painting. You can also buy a piece at your local home store to make this Christmas craft.
I had to cut the fencing down a smaller size. I got out the dreaded circular saw and set up the saw horses and went to town. You know I am starting to get over my apprehension in using the circular saw so that is good.
After the pieces were cut I was able to fit them together. The two pieces were attached by using pieces of wood the same size as the wood on the back of the fencing. I also attached two pieces to mimic the two pieces that were sticking up although it was after I finished the painting. And to do all this was made possible by the compressor and nail gun.
After the fence was sanded smooth I painted it with some crackle medium. After it dried I went back over it with white paint I had mixed up. I knew I wanted this to look rustic. Then I took a large felt ornament and traced around it.
Using red craft paint I filled in the ornament. Silver was painted on the top. Then I used red glitter paints in areas to highlight the ornament. I sanded it down so it would look old and worn, like it had been lovingly hung year after year.
I waxed this piece of artwork but felt it needed something more. I glued red poly rope around it and used another piece for a picture hanger.
This picture is ready to be hung and get us all in the Christmas spirit.
