Rip off those tiles and you can put wood up the wall and paint it white. You can reptile the floors your self and go on Craigslist to find someone selling them or for now use the ones with glue backing. At least you will brighten it until you can afford a new bathroom

    Its a rental...stuck with it.

Take a look at a color wheel. The color opposite the color in the tiles is the complementary color, then depending on whether you intended to paint or just needed suggestions for towels, you can decide what you like best.

You can paint tile these days with all the new products out there. I think I'd go for that!

It's pretty neutral. Just about anything you like would go with it, so long as you incorporate a bit of the color in accessories. If you find a shower curtain you like that has a bit of beige in the pattern, accessorize with the other colors in the shower curtain.

A Sage green would go with it.
  • What ever the darkest color in the floor tile is would be a nice accent. What are you looking to do? Coordinate towels and accessories?

I see turquoise blue to brighten the room and detract from the tile. Also, that coupled with the tan in a nice patterned curtain or towels would really pop!

Hard to identify colors in the tile, however; I believe grays, browns, blues, whites and cream colored items. Also, use minimal black....black will make the other colors "pop." Consider a picture with a black frame or minimal black. Maybe paint the upper wall a chocolate brown color with blue or white towels/accessories.

Take a colour wheel into that bathroom and then you can hold the colours against the room and see what looks good to you. Sometimes if you are not sure, the only way to envision a colour in that room is to take a bit of that colour in there and see if it works! Even a magazine would give you some colour pages to play with. See what tones, or if you want contrast - what pops and brings the look together. Better than buying a shower curtain or towels and getting them home only to find they look awful and you end up taking them back to the store! Sometimes the most surprising colours - things you would never have looked at twice in the store or thought could possibly match or look good will work and lift the whole room. Good luck with it!

Martha, Make it light and bright. A light paint like cream. You can doll it up with ready made shelf's from home goods, very easy to hang. Maybe a roll end of lino easy install,You will need a sharp razor box cutter. Good Luck have fun !

you can also put a 'skirt' around the bottom of the sink, along the inside of the lip! That was very 'in' back in the day and making a come-back. If you like 'matchy matchy', you could get 2 shower curtains and use one for the skirt. It hides the pipes and you can tuck the trash can under there as well. That's what I would do - I did this to a kitchen sink where the doors under the sink got damaged and put a small curtain rod/drapes to hide the junk under - just like they did 'way back when'. I also like the color wheel idea. Blue/beige is really big right now, as are greens. Just stay away from anything pink, mauve, etc. Get the color wheel and you'll at least feel good being able to see the color yourself. And if you have a window in there, go to Lowes/Home Depot and get some of the cling faux glass film for it. That really jazzes up a bathroom and there are several patterns to choose from, even just 'frosted glass'. And it just peels right off when you move!

I'd go more modern and bring in a charcoal color on rugs and towels. But that's just me. I have a vinyl grey/salmon/rust mix on our floor so brought in rust towels and charcoal rugs. Looks modern and warm

cream color on the walls to match the lighter tile. I can't tell if there's a mirror or medicine cabinet. maybe frame it out with something very dark. like distressed black. same color for a little stand or cupboard of some sort. If you can't put in a vanity, maybe a built to fit base with storage for under the sink to make it look like a little vanity. again distressed black. I think this would compliment the vintage going on here. maybe an antique light fixture? towel bars and such are easy to switch out. again you could upcycle somethings to embrace the era.

If you are allowed to paint the wall tiles, I would go with a celery green from the floor tile, hard to tell what the colors are in the floor. Then start accents, curtains, shower curtain in a shade darker. I would go to a paint store and check out the paint strips, they have variant colors in the same general hue/shade. I have made a lot of decisions with these strips.

If you own, glue beadboard painted white over this tile, using molding to add a small shelf all the way around the top! This is a stunning look! It is not expensive and then you can paint whatever color you want that goes with the flooring, or put down a large rug in whatever color you want! White beadboard would look great with dark brown paint and white accessories in everything else. Replace that towel rack with a more modern one. Even a scrap piece of wood you can get out of the scrap box at Home Depot or Lowes can be sanded, painted and a couple of decorative hooks attached...even old door knobs work great on these...bent spoons can be mad into hooks...just drill through the spoon part and bend up the handle...these are cheap at old flea market type stores. Add a pop of color with accessories! Cranberry would be a good accent color...goes great with brown. And small shelves picked up at thrift stores can be painted white and make great storage. Can be stacked right up that wall between sink and toilet.

I had a similar situation and took all the tile of the wall and floor up. I used bead board where the walls were the worse, find a cute small cabinet with a sink and with some storage and redo the floor in tile squares. Several kinds of those. Check at Lowes or Home Depot for all the material.

I would paint the part above the tile a nice deep moroccan red. Then add a cool stencil in a copper or deep blue. Then you can get little hanging cut brass tea lights as accents. a Big fluffy rug in a camel color and you have a real show stopper.
