It has been a whirlwind of week here at Art is Beauty.
I got asked to do my very first ever TV interview for a local station
Fox 17 Grand Rapids.
They were doing a piece on upcycling and decided to interview ME..
I was stressed to the max in the week leading up. I had to get my booth decorated and get it just right..then a HUGE storm came in and wiped out power. We had to postpone the interview because of NO POWER but thankfully everyone in our area was safe.
I also had to finish this piece that I wanted to have in booth.
OH and finish and Oil Painting....:) what???? This is how my brain works.
So I got my Buffet finished and my oil painting finished
So here is the Buffet I did for my spot on the local news to make sure I had a nice big piece in the background. You can see how I got the finish.
The finished painted buffet. A nice vintage green, with some new knobs from Hobby Lobby. http://arttisbeauty.blogspot.com/2013/11/super-shabby-buffet-makeover-and-my-15.html
This was the beast before. In great condition, just weighs about a million pounds. http://arttisbeauty.blogspot.com/2013/11/super-shabby-buffet-makeover-and-my-15.html
I started layering on my paints before I even got the hardware off. Can you tell I was a bit excited to work on this. http://arttisbeauty.blogspot.com/2013/11/super-shabby-buffet-makeover-and-my-15.html
below are the links to the tv segments. There is still one link that they have not put up yet. http://fox17online.com/2013/11/19/classes-available-on-how-to-upcycle/
Here she is in my booth doing a story on upcycling, you can see the video in the link below http://fox17online.com/2013/11/19/how-upcycling-works/
you can see a little bit of the layering in this shot and my favorite handles that I finally got to use on a project. http://arttisbeauty.blogspot.com/2013/11/super-shabby-buffet-makeover-and-my-15.html

Did you sand the complete dresser and what grade of sand paper? Thanks

@Rose Martin I don't need to sand the whole thing because I use CeCe Caldwells paint. I do lightly sand the top to make sure there is nothing sticky or any other residue. But I also wipe down the whole thing before paintings. I paint in full layers. I do thin coats and distress in some spots so that the paint shows through a little more in some spots and then a full over distress before waxing. The other colors you saw in patches were so that those colors showed through when distressed. I wanted to give the appearance of multiple layers of paint (as if it had been painted many times over the years.)

if she used chalk paint, like Annie Sloan, there is no sanding or priming necessary. THat is the beauty of chalk paint. More expensive but lots less product and work!

@Kelly Wivell I used CECE CALDWELLS all natural clay and mineral paints :)
