Suitcase Coffee Table

I love to find a good treasure wherever I am and a few weekends ago, I found one in the back of my neighbor’s truck. While I was outside with the kids, I saw this fantastic, vintage suitcase peeking out of his truck. I wondered what he was doing with a “fantastic, vintage suitcase” in the back of his truck?? I had to ask. He said he was hauling it to the dump!
Wait for it…… wait for it……… {yep, insert the happy dance}. After my dance, I grabbed the suitcase. I had a great idea for this little gem.
I knew the suitcase was the piece I needed for some table legs I picked up at an estate sale. This was not any estate sale. The lady having it was moving to South Carolina and had to get rid of all the stuff she had picked up to repurpose, upcycle and create with. She loved DIY projects and repurposing things and had accumulated tons of great things! For me, walking through her sale was like a kid walking through a candy store. It was so much fun!
The inside of the suitcase was fine, but in order to screw the legs to the bottom of the suitcase, we needed to add some wood inside. Hubby just traced the bottom of the suitcase on a piece of oak we had in the garage and cut it out.
I stained the top of the board.
My husband cut the legs down to size and used some dark stain to cover up some of the scratches. They look great!
The inside pocket of the suitcase was sagging a little bit so I just used some hot glue to fix it.
This little table is just as I had imagined AND….it provides storage for blankets, magazines and remotesit adds so much character to our porchit is the perfect height to put your feet up onit makes a great little table for my kids to eat on
What else do you need in a suitcase coffee table?
Now, off to find my next treasure .
