A tutorial to show you how to make a customized pair of mittens from felted sweaters. These mittens have leather reinforcing on the palms making them ideal for winter chores.
These mittens are customized to fit the wearer. They are made for free from a felted moth-eaten sweater, and a leather upholstery colour swatch.
Customize the mittens by cutting the pattern from a glove or mitten that fits the wearer. Add a seam allowance.
Lay out your pattern using the ribbing from the sweater for a cuff.
Cut out scraps of leather to add reinforcing on palms and thumbs.
Stitch leather with a zigzag stitch to attach it to the palm-side of each mitten. Place back and palm pieces right side together. Use a straight stitch to join the two sides of the mittens together. Turn mittens right side out.
The mittens fit,
Bring on the winter chores.
