Project: Mid-mod china cabinet from cheap mdf fixture

Is it OK to share projects in here? If so, I'd like to share one... I have a very small house without a lot of storage space, and I also have some heirloom china, so I needed something to store the china in. I looked online at lots of furniture, but everything I liked that would fit the location I had was so expensive. So I decided to make my own. It turned out to be cheap and easy!

I went to the ReStore and picked up a used cheap cabinet -- MDF with paper veneer, though the paper was pretty. After some thought, I got some spray paint, some wood stain (for the legs) and some tapered legs. The result is below, and I am beyond thrilled with it! It's exactly the size I need, and it looks good! Now, it is still a cheap MDF cabinet, which means that someday I will hopefully replace it with more quality. But in the meantime, I have storage and I love the way it looks.

The paint is Rustoleum metallic pearl in "Sea Mist", and metallic gold (for the pulls and the metal on the legs). The stain is some random cherry stain... Minwax, I think. The legs are from Amazon and they were very cheap.

The finished cabinet!
This is what it looked like when I brought it home.

Wendy, you did a great job with that cabinet! I especially like the legs. You transformed 'plain' into fabulous. Really inspiring.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you all!

Since I finished this a couple of weeks ago I kind of want to make new cabinets out of every beat up old one I see. :) Paint and legs make such a difference!

Earlier this fall I made a side table with hairpin legs and that was fun too. And so easy!
