Easy DIY holiday gift idea

If you have someone who is a fan of hot chocolate a great idea is to make a hot chocolate jar! This is an affordable and creative idea for neighbors, co-workers, or friends!

Directions:
1. Purchase mason jars (1 for each person you are gifting it to), cocoa powder, mini marshmallows, candy canes, chocolate chips, ribbon, and thick paper
2. First, add the cocoa powder to the bottom of the jar. If you want to make 6 servings per jar, add 6 cups of cocoa powder.
3. Next, crush the candy canes and add a layer of them into the jar along with marshmallows and chocolate chips. You can place these in any order you want!
4. Cut the paper and use it to write a sweet note or keep it simple with "Happy Holidays". You can get as creative as you want. Then use the ribbon to tie it around the jar!
5. ENJOY :)

I've had brownies in a cup (single serving). I think there's a recipe on Pinterest. Just put all the ingredients with some chocolate or peanut butter chips (optional) in a really nice mug. Use a plastic zip to hold them and use the mug as the gift wrap. Just put gift wrap on top and secure with a nice ribbon with a card with instructions. They then only follow the instructions and microwave it to have a personal brownie.

Are you sure you mean 6 CUPS of cocoa powder, it seems like a huge amount?

It just depends on how many servings you want a jar to make! Each serving uses 1/2 cup of cocoa.

Are there other toppings besides the crushed candy canes you would suggest?

Caramel chips, toffee pieces, white chocolate chips, sprinkles, m&m's. Whatever you think would taste good in hot chocolate! The baking aisle of any store always has great choices!

I don't think she means baking cocoa powder ... I think she means the hot cocoa powder (like you would get in a Swiss Miss or Nestle packet).

How do you fit 6 cups of cocoa powder into the jar?

    • Nicolette Spargo Nicolette Spargo on Dec 20, 2016

It depends on the jar size! The one pictured is not the one I made specifically. If you get a large jar you can fit more so there will be multiple servings!
