Kerry, Insulation in any place settles. As per your area, zone 1 and 2 the required R value for insulation in attic is R30- R60. The thickness should be about 12-18" in depth. If you measure and notice insulation lesser than 12" then you need to re insulate. It is important that there is a even layer of insulation in your attic. places were there is less you can add to achieve the height required. -
Kerry, the answer to your question is every 6 years for cellulose, every 10 years for fiberglass, or you can install foam insulation on the underside of the roofdeck, one time, and never replace it again. Adding additional blown insulation or fiberglass will have a limited affect on your utility bill because, although it will do a marginal job of protecting your home from the heat in the attic, it does nothing to protect the duct work in the attic which can be exposed to up 200 degrees in ...»
