Why not rip that off and use carpet stair covers. Not sure if I am saying that correct. They are available in strips in assorted colors, this way you will have traction, decoration and wood showing.
My friend ripped of her carpet and painted the wood it came out stunning.
Do you know what is under the carprt? If it is an older home, chances are there is beautiful wood underneath. You can paint, stain or a combination. If it is newer, it might take a bit more work. My stairs under the carpet are cheap builder grade tract house junk. In my case I have some older dogs and they need the traction of the carpet to use the stairs. Eventually I will rip out and re-do. See if you can pull up a portion to see what you have to work with. Hope this helps! Have fun wit it!
Just look in Pinterest !! They have awesome ideas :) And you find a lot of ideas from Hometalk too in Pinterest
Hundreds of amazing ideas on Pinterest. I'm soon going to remove my carpet, but have seen so many great ideas I'm not sure which to use. A word of caution.....we recently removed carpet from my sons stairs. The treads did not go all the way to the wall. Crazy! Fortunately they were putting new carpet down, so it wasn't an issue. I'm not doing carpet at my house, but I'm willing to buy all new treads if need be. Have fun! I look forward to pictures.
Hometalk.com shows painted stairs with an inexpensive runner carpet used up the center. It was very elegant and stunning to look at.
