This post will walk you through the steps for an unique and easy DYI gift just in time for Christmas. This customized canvas is easy enough to make that my 6 year old daughter had no trouble creating one! The only thing that took any time was waiting for the paint to dry.
First, layout the newspaper or parchment paper to keep your work surface from getting paint on it. Paint each canvas and each ornament/wooden cutout the desired colors.
If you are using glitter, be sure to add the glitter while the paint is still wet so it will stick. Here’s a picture of my workstation for the glitter. I used parchment paper to pour the paint on.
For one ornament cutout I used a mixture of colors plus glitter… It was tricky and took a little more because it is a layered ornament time but I like how it turned out.
Now after everything is dry, it is time to glue it all together. I first arranged the designs on the canvases to get the look just right for each one and then I added the super glue to the back of each item and placed it on the canvas. You can also finish these by spraying them with a clearcoat of spray paint.
Tah dah! You have a homemade DYI gift that you can share with family and friends! I'm all about handcrafted things and am excited that my daughter helped with painting these. I'm hoping the teachers enjoy these as much as we did making them.
