Storage ideas for home and Christmas decor

I live in a small bungalow. How do I safely store all of my excess tableware, china, glassware and holiday decorations in my basement? Rubbermaid containers may take over my basement. I have a very nice craft room in the basement now And I hate clutter. I also need to be able to easily access the china and table items throughout the year.

  • Do you have any other space in your home to store items? Garage? Another alternative might be to updo a dresser or anything that has storage possibilities. May need to be in another room but at least things would be organized. I have the same problem, my house is tiny, and on the west coast we do not have basements. All my holiday decor is in the garage. Craft items are in closets and anywhere else I can find to stash them. Not great for spontaneous crafting, but I am used to it. So I feel your pain, I am not fond of clutter either. Will keep thinking! ☺

I have everthing in rubbermaid containers. Our basement flooded only once in 30 years and I had to throw thousands of dollars worth of items away (it was sewer water). I recently was diagnosed with lupus so now everything is a major chore to pack and unpack. I have a two car garage with two large vans so my garage is not an option. I am a retired teacher but I also have been an antique dealer for many years. It may be time for me to get rid of it all. Thank you for your response.

Have you looked into the option of storing things on the ceiling of your garage?

If you have space under your beds, they sell flat bins on wheels. I store my Christmas decorations and wrapping supplies in them. They also keep the space dust free which is a bonus. If you don't like bins there are bed platforms which offer storage below.

as a dealer you know that you can find an old breakfront, functional if not pretty, for very little money. Put one in your basement or garage and load with those things you use for special occasions. They are fabulous storage, as you know. One-stop shopping, as it were, for your glassware, china, etc.

Since there are water concerns, have it set on top of 2 by 4's to keep it off the floor. Home Depot will cut them to length so there no warping/stressing from just supporting it at the ends. Or find a "flat" like everyone is using to make furniture now.

If the breakfront has legs, put the legs in plastic takeout containers. Every chair and table in our basement is in Chinese soup containers.
