In my opinion you can use the plank floors ,however I would math the color as close as you can to the other floors.
I agree with Janet. You can use any style flooring, but try to match the color. It will delineate the kitchen area as being separate, but still blend in with the rest of the home.
If the floors will run into each other then use the same flooring. If in different parts of the house change the hardwood but people will notice it. I am going to do my kitchen and family room in a textured bamboo that looks like hardwood as it is much more durable. A good one is Cali bamboo that you can purchase at Lowes or directly from the company.
