Cable bills and internet.

There have been several suggestions on alternatives to cable tv but no one has addressed the internet. How do you still get an internet connection if you you don't have cable tv or a land line?

I have a mobile wireless modem ( it looks like a flash drive) that i got through my cell company US Cellular. I love it ! I can use it anywhere that i can get a cell signal, so i can take my laptop with me. There are a few drawbacks: it can only be used on one computer at a time, you have limited data per month ( i have 5 GB ) and get charged for overage, and it's alittle more expensive. Since i am the only one in my house that uses a computer & i haven't had the desire to own a smart phone, it's affordable at around $63.00 a month. I know Verizon has something like this, too ..... good luck !

There are some companies that offer satellite options. Dish network is one, but there are some independent companies as well. Your internet comes through a satellite dish instead of through a cable. It should work well in your area, our issue is that big storms can cause a problem with reception. Hope it works out for you!

If you have a smartphone, there is an app called FoxFi that is a free app for an Android phone (limited on time, need to keep restarting about every 15 minutes) or it's $2.99 for the full app (unlimited on time). It makes your phone a mobile hot spot that you can use for your computer to surf the web... It doesn't have blazing speed but it gets the job done when I don't have a hot spot near me to sign in on. It doesn't count against your data plan if you have a smart phone and if you have unlimited talk time, you won't pay for air time either.... It's even worth the $65.00 a month for the pay as you go phones offering unlimited data, texts and talk from other service providers.

Some cities now offer free Internet access hot spots, just like Starbucks or other places (Our entire downtown area went that way almost 10 years ago). And some, such as the one I live in, have gone to a city wide total access. It isn't available in all areas yet, but it is picking up momentum and maybe in the next few years it will include the area I live in, but it does however have it's drawbacks. One being that open access to everyone gives an advantage to hackers to gain personal info from your computer if they want it. The only good side to it, not dishing out $40 a month in Internet fees. Recently some companies are on a push to grab customers and have dropped their rates to around $15 a month installation included, giving high speed access and no limit on data. If you can find one that offers this, I would go for it.

You don't have to have cable TV or a land line phone in order to get cable Internet. Most cable companies try to sell all 3 to you as a package deal, but you can still ask for just the Internet service. That's what I have in my home: just a cable modem. You can call your cable company and ask them how much your bill will cost if you remove the phone and cable TV.

We have our internet thru Earthlink (which is actually thru Comcast and is $43). We subscribe to Hulu + and Netflix. Our Apple TV gives us access to those both on our screen in the family room. I can watch others on my computer in my quilting room. That is our total cost! Less than $20/month plus unlimited internet.

We live in the country where cable isn't available so we had to get Directv. Our internet service is completely different from our phone service. It's through Atlink.

I have internet only through Comcast. I do not have a land line, I use my cell phone instead, I don't have cable, as I do not watch t.v.. I pay about 55.00 a month for internet.

I don't use cable or satellite. I get WIfi from ATT. No cell phone or landline. I use a tablet with a free app for texting and a free app for calling. I use Netflix,Hulu Plus and a Roku and there's a couple of free websites to watch all kinds of programming. The news channels I watch I can watch for free online and on the Roku.
