Hey....It has been so long since I have planned to change my garage doors as these doors have been really gone messed up due to the continuous usage for years. I have got no idea with whom to go in for having the right kind of doors. One of my friends had suggested me with a contractor ( http://canglow.ca/ ) in Toronto who deals in such services of replacement of windows and doors.
Any suggestions?

I LOVE the wooden garage door look, would you consider something like these?

Locate some local door and window companies and ask for estimates. Estimates are generally free. Talk to friends, neighbors, and co workers and see if anyone can refer someone. Make sure you get at least three estimates, ask for references, and check them out online for reviews.

installing and uninstalling garage doors is fairly simple. The doors come in panels. You can purchase garage doors at Home Depot or Lowes. They deliver them. The package comes with instructions. Or you can find the instructions on how to install them online. With two people it takes about 6 hours. My husband and son did it. You first have to unhook the garage door opener if you have one. Then take out the old door by unscrewing the bolts for each panel starting at the top panel. If the railings are in good shape then you don't have to replace them. The instructions that come with the doors are very easy to follow.

If you buy a door at the local building center, they usually have names of contractors that do that sort of work. I just had mine changed but a brother did it and I watched. It was work I could not do but he seemed to have no trouble.

Having worked in the business for a long time, first let me mention that for that width door, it may need springs above the first four lower sizes. If that is so, you need an experienced installer. The springs on that door require a special tool for winding the spring and even then it can still spring back on the installer and leave him seriously hurt. 1. Go inside the garage and take a look at the end of the springs. If you can detect blue, green, red or yellow paint on the tip, then your husband may want to try and install the new door. 2. Does it have one or two springs.3. Count the horizontal panels and their width. Head to any of the box stores and talk to the person in charge of the garage door department. Or you can find a local installer that will provide the door and all the hardware. 4. Questions to ask before you head out your door. Wood or metal. If you have kids that like to play basketball in the driveway, get a wooden door. Kids just love to put ugly dents into metal doors. Insulated or not. What style windows. Go on line and Google "garage doors." If you think it would be safer to have it installed, then find one closest to your home. I know of some companies in the area I live in add mileage as well as labor to the bill.
