I need help mounting flat screen over my fireplace please!

Thanks. I've seen these, but I really don't want to see a pole hanging down from the ceiling. If I have to go this route, I'll use a white pole so it blends in with the brick a little better.

Thats a lot of weight to support , so choose wisely. If it were me trying to pull this off, I'd put something above the TV to hide the supports such as a shelf/cubby or a picture with supports behind.

Though looking at your pic again, you really can add a beefier mantal (could be wood made to look like matching brick, which would keep the stream line /clean look) if done correctly could hide and support a large TV, but I would hire a professional for this, unless someone in your family has these kind of skills.

While I've never used a TV wall mounting bracket, I'm sure it can be anchored using cement bolts. Than just paint the cables and cords white and use White caulk to hold in place at grout line.ost people don't look at small details, but see the total area and the brain reads it as of one. Think of a painting, normally you don't look at each brush stroke, but interp the painting as a whole.

First not the best place for a TV. As you sit you will be looking up all the time. Do you like to sit in the front row at the movies? Then you have the heat and soot from the fireplace, not the best for electronics.

That said, I would use stainless steel (you can paint them white) cables to hang it from the ceiling. You can also use an electric wintch to lower the TV to the proper more comfertable height. Just not when you have a fire going on :)

get a device called mantle mount. It can pull forward AND down. Great device

As you can see, our fireplace is just like yours, but, I could never sacrifice my mantle for a TV. Sorry I'm no help.

I don't have a mantle and I refuse to put holes in the brick...I was hoping for an alternative solution; otherwise I'll just go without the TV.

Is this a working fireplace? That you use? Heat and electronics do NOT MIX. I would not put the TV above a real used fireplace, period.

We bought a wall mount system from WalMart . Hubby mounted a 3/4" piece of plywood to Stone and then wall mount system to it and hung our 55". Works great and has been there since July 2014. Fireplace is elect. and we don't use it very much as we are in South Texas but so far no problems.

I appreciate your perspective, and even share it somewhat. Unfortunately, this house is considerably smaller than my last and the living space is limited. I am still trying to work out other options, but in the end, I will be living here and not putting atmosphere above practicality. Thankfully, there are many constructive ideas provided on this forum - which is why I posted here.

Why do people feel the need to state their assinine opinion(s) here about why they wouldn't hang a TV above their fireplace when all you ask for is ideas from those who have their TVs above their fireplaces???? Excuse me Mrs. Big House but some of us live in tighter quarters and hanging our TVs above our fireplaces is the most sensible option. Besides it's the best option in my home because my small living room is a rectangular shape and the fireplace sits in the corner of the room on the opposite side of the room

So many people mount TVS over their fireplaces which I disagree with. You are constantly tilting your head upwards to watch and eventually this will cause neck pain and headaches. TVS should be at eye level to ease pressure on your neck.

I Don't think anyone was being critical or rude to be honest. She asked for help and advice and that's what they gave. for those that don't know this you should never ever drill holes into your chimney because of the gases you can die from that so just a little drill holes into your chimney because of the gases you can die from that so just a little advice on that. I know that's not what she wants to do her ideas smarter. But I think the advice and thoughts that everyone gave was good. doing something like this needs to be very well-thought-out so ma'am take all the advice you can get before doing it

Good thought, but you are looking at the only two usable corners in the room. The opposite end is actually in the dining area. I don't want to block the windows with the television and I don't have a lot of room for a bulky tv stand. I think I have found another wall to work with...now I am trying to figure out how to make it happen. Thank you.

Thanks for asking. You had all kinds of comments some good some pretty out spoken but don't let it get to you. It is your home so you can do it anyway you want. None of them have to look at it. Thanks. My intention was never to drill into the fireplace. I love the white tile and wouldn't want to mar it in any way...especially for a television. There have been some great ideas here and I am looking into several of them. Not to worry, I will certainly do my homework as I only want to do this once.

Just to add, I know of first hand-experience that mounting the tv above a fireplace (which you use) can damage the tv, all the heat does not go up the chimney.
