Hang a piece of stained glass in the frame of the door window. Add paint, in a dark shade to the framework.

you should hire an electrician after you remove the wall, have him put the lights switch on the wall the door is on, so when you walk in you can turn lights on right away. Then just re-arrange the furniture in the next room to suit the new openness and larger entryway

One thing that you could do is look for an old stained glass window. Make sure it is reinforced by putting it in a sturdy new enclosure. Then hang it from the opening. You can use 2 totally different designs. Even an old white frosted glass window would be pretty. If you are artistic, use glass paint and make your own window!

An open book case with your favorite what knots sitting on it. Such as vases, figurines, bouquet of flowers, ect. Have shelves different sizes and hight's.

I always like a real foyer, so I would not take out a wall, but I would paint the area a different color than the living room. If you can find a stained glass window to fit in the opening that would be gorgeous, if not buy an old window and do your own treatment. Home Depot has beautiful rolls of different designs that are easy to apply to windows and inexpensive, I have two big windows on each side of my door and over the door that I did and they turned out beautiful. Then you can place a small table under the window you put in, and that can be where you put keys etc. If you find a window you like and it doesn't fit perfect you can frame it to fit, and I think it will be a great space you will love.

Take out knee wall by door, Put a header over that area if you need support. Paint entire room light color including around the picture window. Leave front door dark wood. Then light colored slip covers for furniture...Leave one or two pieces of furniture wood but make sure they are same color of wood....It should update, and make it look fresh... Oh yea, the windows around front door, stained glass, but a more modern light colored stained glass look....

I like the idea of a foyer, like Patricia Routt, there are so many things you could do rather than take the wall down. Paint the room a brighter color, paint the entryway a different color and either put moveable small shutters in the window area or follow some of the suggestions above re: stained glass etc.

I am for keeping the wall ..Cause if you remove it the electrical outlets have to be moved and that entails digging deeper in your pocket ..Like what Patricia Routt said .

I love the open look however I have two openings for my front room and find it impacts on furniture placement. I like the idea of a stained glass window and then you could make a reading area in that corner of the front room. Good luck

Since it is an entrance way, I would keep the wall and close the opening with drywall and brighten the area up with paint. Hang a mirror or artwork on it and place the piece of furniture you have there at the door under the mirror/art with baskets on the shelves to put items in.

If it was my house I'd do one of these.....Hang shutters with an Italian picture hand painted on them, or leave them solid, paint them a bright color, coordinating with other paint.........Frame in a window without the panes of glass, so it would just be the frame,....or hang pendant lights in the opening....or leave it open and frame it out with wide dark trim.........I really like the stained glass idea also....

Oh what fun! I can think of a dozen things to do with them, right off the top of my head! They're dependent on your budget, of course. This could be a good time to enclose the living room altogether and leave a traditional doorway either where it is now or closing it in and having one of these openings opened up the rest of the way down - for the doorway. Regardless, if you keep either or both of the present openings, you can go from transparent (like stained glass, though this can also be quite opaque) to solid - like a piece of plywood placed in the middle of the opening and all kinds of things could be put on it - from a bulletin board (perhaps covered with fabrics tacked on the back to change easily with your mood) to narrow shelves on which to display eye candies of all sorts. Then, there's the lattice work option - that could be used either in the middle so it could be decorated from both sides or on one side only - forming a screen from that side but having shelves mounted in the opening for displays, on the other side. Oh, and draperies over the openings are another possibility - whether you do anything else with them or not. So many, many ideas come to mind. Love these creative projects!

You might also consider adding a wrought iron "window" there. You can order custom sized faux iron at fauxiron.com. Lots of patterns and fairly reasonable.

i think you would be shocked how much different this room would look taking out that whole wall. Unless that is a load bearing wall, your only major expense would be the electrician and you are married to him. We took out a wall that was load bearing and the beam and labor was $600. But what a difference it made. And it was a wall with openings like yours.

pick up an old multi paned window, clean the glass well. Use glass paints or my favorite is a spray called Looking Glass by Krylon. Hang it with a few chain links and it would be beautiful.

I would buy 2 old multi paned windows & replace the glass with mirror. Use hooks, eyes & chain & suspend one from each opening. Good luck with whatever you decide!
