How do you cut plastic electric wall plates?

How to cut electrical plastic wall plates? My kitchen backsplash and switch plates are to close. Need to cut the edge off bottom. Have tried box cutter, scissors. Thank you!

    Use a box cutter and a straight edge. Make several passes to score the plastic till you can easily bend a break off the waste piece. Sand the edge smooth.

    Take it to a local carpenter or cabinetmaker and ask them to saw it off. If you have a jigsaw you could do it yourself.

    I used a power saw. Then sand the edge. It leaves the best finish. Cut through from the front to back. For the best edge.

    End of holidays have me busy, will post later how it turned out.

    p.s. Always check behind the granite countertop people for measurements. Told me I had plenty of room for switch plates and here we are, trying to fix a problem.
