How to beautify an electric fireplace

It's that wood color that has an almost orange tint to it. My style is French country with. A little English country and vintage. Lots of grey in the room. I was thinking of chalk paint in a charcoal grey or even black. But I also want to alter the facade somehow and beef up the mantel also somehow. Any great ideas?

Ornamental add-ons will help with the façade and are easy to do. Adding a piece or two of 2" thick lumber in graduating sizes to the mantel is also easy, and lumber stores or home stores will cut the wood for you if you need them to. For example the first piece added can be 1 inch wider and longer than the current mantel, the second piece 1 inch wider and longer than the first. Attach the first piece to the existing mantel attach the second piece to the first. Use screws and wood glue. Once dried paint your new fireplace the charcoal color you like because is sounds good and you might play with the antiquing wax also, depending on the look of the rest of your room. Because it's a fireplace make sure you give your paint job plenty of time to cure before plugging it in and using it, just to be safe. Good Luck!
