To paint or not to paint?

I need a little home decor advice....should I paint these antlers or leave them au naturale?

Depending on your taste, I think painting them white with flat paint and then water down some brown paint to wipe on lightly gives a rustic yet contemporary look. Really there's no right or wrong. Whatever will go with your style is going to look great.

It really is determined by your decor style - if it's modern, I say go ahead. But if it's traditional in any way, leave them natural.

It also depends on whether or not they are "special" in any way, i.e., someone's first deer?

I love how they look painted. Since I have a set that are not painted and sitting lovely in my hub's Man Men Den along with the goat skull my friend found and cleaned and he cow skull I found and cleaned.....IF I GOT MY HANDS ON MORE...I WOULD PAINT THEM! http://ourownbigworld.com/2012/05/07/dont-lose-your-head/

That one looks good against the white; however, I have a faux taxidermy deer head on my wall that I painted turquoise and decorated with flowers cut out of a cotton scarf. It's my little decorating joke--do what makes you happy. cheers!

Being a huge fan of rustic decor, i would leave them natural. There are so many textures and subtle color changes. but, natural all the way.

Painted is a fun look, but I can't help but think a few years down the road someone somewhere is going to pick up a painted antler and think, "what the heck?". Or, "remember when...?" This will be a passing fad that will probably look pretty silly in the future. So I think it depends on if you're a disposable decor kind of person.

I already commented above in favor of natural. However, if your decor style is to use lots of colorful &/or unusual objects/paint treatments, then painting it might make complete sense and it could be a lasting addition to your collection. But it seems to me if that were the case, you wouldn't even be asking. :)

Depends on your style of house. I have a clean rustic of dark colors using a lot of black. If you have a lot of light colors,but still rustic, I have seen antlers panted white which I like. Like the rustic but if you want the clean look paint white.

It depends on the look you want. If you are going for a more contemporary look, you could paint/guild them. People are also mixing contemporary furnishings with natural elements. It's up to you and what you like. Mine are natural because I like the "natural" lodge look in my family room.

Looks like more people like natural, My self included. But have seen silver painted and think it a very elegent look white modern, any other color is your taste.I vote natural.

All of the ones that I decorate with are natural. I have them interspersed with my decorations on top of our cabinets. They really look good & my Hubby really likes it also. They are such beautiful accents, I think what ever you like would be special. Please let us see what you decide.

If I only had one set I would leave them natural../if I had more, paint one set. I love the natural of nature...but using them as part of the decor also pays attention and respect to our natural world.

I think it can go either way but go with where you will place it. I've seen some very glam'd up ones and it looks great in the room decor. Had a friend who left her's raw and it also looked great.

Although I love to transform with paint, I would leave these beautiful antlers natural. There are some things that are just not meant to be painted.

Inside the house I would paint; outside I would leave naTuran after spraying with poly to protect from deterioration. Use a accent under your porch or patio, around a mailbox, etc. Exposed to elements would have to be marine varnish.
