This room divider need some serious help!

Lightly sand ,prime and paint with a color that blends with your room.

I agree with Janet, after repainting like maybe a white color, then find flower decals and place on the bottom of each panel.

As Janet suggested, paint will make it look brand new. I lined the back of my open screen with opaque fabric using spray adhesive which let a little light thru

I would take out the top diamond panels and attach some light linen or burlap.

i'd put something light and airy on the bottom panels if anything.

I think it only depends only where you put it, I have one just like it, paint it a eggshell color and put Christmas Led Lights behind it.

If you want to keep it rustic, you might just choose to use a wood cleaner and preservative on it to enhance the grain and detail; and add a silver tin or copper tinted panel behind the open design to give it more interest. Thin light weight mirror panels would reflect the light in the room. If the screen is visible from both sides, these ideas might not work. Otherwise, painting always a good option. I would use high gloss in a color that complements but doesn't blend in.

you wouldn't have to take out the diamonds to use fabric in front or in the back of them. This is a lovely screen! Perhaps decoupage some rustic scene or pine cones on the panels below.

This is a very nice piece. I would lighten it up and maybe do some airy linen fabric with the diamond panels...

Paint and add fabric.

I had a similar project. I painted, distressed & antiqued my doors. Removed inserts & replaced with burlap.

I would def paint it maybe with a chalk wash. Then tie ribbons thru the lattice work to hold photos of your family or paintings of your favorite things, etc. Let us see your finished product choice.

Paint a light color and use a darker contrasting color on the panels. Burlap would cheapen the look of this beautiful piece. I wouldn't do that if I were you. All you need is a good paint job to brighten it up.

I think some paint would be great and I would remove the lattice and replace with fabric. Even a shear fabric pleated and stapled would give it a more feminine look. It really depends on where you are using it. Actually the possibilities are endless, nice piece.

I had some heavy 6 foot tall shutters that I joined together to make a screen many years ago. Since my decor had an Asian flair, I painted then gloss black with gold on the edges, and inserted thin batting and a beautiful Asian fabric in the center parts. Still beautiful years later, and I still receive compliments about them. I would keep the lattice part on yours, though. Adds a nice textural interest.

I would not decoupage. Keep it simple.

This is a beautiful piece. I would make removable panel inserts to cover the lattice. That way you can change material whenever you want - go to Michael's or somewhere and buy canvas stretchers !

Family room/rustic tones/. Stain or paint the larger surfaces with what you like. Dark brown? Black? And make the 'grill' an antique copper or antique'd silver. Not a shiny gold, for sure.

I would keep it very simple. I would paint it a medium sage green and distress it to let some of the original dark color come out.

Wow, great ideas. I love the piece myself and would leave the lattice and might think about using some fabric inserts on the bottom to lighten it up, if your not painting or either way. It is a great piece to have. Share when you have decided what your doing..

I think the paint color depends on the effect you want to create. Lighter colors would make it blend in more, darker colors would be a contrast/ make it stand out. Also, what is its function? Is it going to be decorative or used as, say, a room divider of sorts? If the latter, then perhaps a heavier fabric would be the way to go. It's a great piece with lots of possibilities. I had a tall wooden one with carvings and used it as my headboard for a while, then a room divider, a dressing screen, etc. Multi-functional pieces are the only way to go for me. I can redecorate without having to spend a dime!

I would clean it well to perhaps brighten up the wood and wicker just a little. Then, protect it. Put a fabric BEHIND the latice on the top. You could use an accent color from your room.

I can picture it painted grey. Then, get some fun family pictures printed in black and white. Frame them in dollar store frames and hang them from the lattice. You could use black and/or white frames for an upscale look or funky colors to have fun with them. You could even use seasonal colors and seasonal pics to decorate for the holidays. Great piece!

It is a great screen! I agree with many posters here, just paint/distress it. IMO, if you want to add fabric, put in front of or behind the lattice. Speaking from experience, tastes change. If you move, you may want to re-invent it to go with your new decor. It would be easier to just remove the fabric, rather than rebuild it later.

Cleaning it up with either oil, paint, or stain. Then, this is rather labor intensive but reversible: weave ribbon (even burlap ribbon) through the lattice - either all of it or just here and there - maybe a light/bright color to add some interest.

Please don't change the finish. Use name brand products (Formby's is one of many) to clean, condition, etc. We all wish we could see this item to add fabric stretched around or behind the latticework without damaging this spectacular piece! You could cut cardboard to fit and spray paint or upholster it. Have fun and enjoy. You might even consider using cellophane (it comes in rolls) and changing it with the season or mood.

It depends on what style you are going for. Chinese red or black with brass accent pieces at each corner and Chinese print on plyboard panel? You can use a wallpaper in whatever style you go for.

Do you want it to stand out or to blend in? Are you looking for a quick fix or a project. Quick fix just add fabric to lattice. Project paint in a color you have in room as accent then if you want to leave lattice open stop there the reason I say this is project is that you have lattice and piece must be painted on both sides. Then I would add a fabric or handmade paper behind lattice. If you want to take it further then in space in front that is reccessed either wood accents painted to coordinate with lattice finishing or with photos that have been enlarged and have them held up by clear dots used in scrapbooking. It really is hard to suggest when you can't see your style from one photo. I mean I see two different baseboards one looks like the same color of screen so why paint but which room will it be going into? Maybe that's the color of kitchen cabinets and you have different wood pieces or maybe the same in family room. It may be a good piece to join both rooms. Good luck.
