I have 40 plus year old basement walls and floor that has a sealant on it of concrete that i would like to paint. I have been told i have to treat them with acid before i can paint. Is there any other way to ready the concrete for painting? THANKS, Denny

Unfortunately no the exsisting paint needs to be stopped or the new paint will not adhere. Look for safe concrete pInt strippers.Once the old paint is removed you will have to prime with a cement primer allow to dry and paint with a concrete paint.

you stated a sealant,so i assumed it was painted. You still have to remove the sealant.

If the walls have never been painted ..you can brush the walls with a broom to remove loose bits then you need block filler to paint the walls with first .The block filler will fill the porus holes and then pick the color for your walls and paint that on the walls ..The floor I think if you want to paint it you can put another sealer over the floors but ask if it can be tinted..I used large card board to push up to walls for preventing splashes from painting the walls .
