They are called grommets. You can find them in the fabric department at Hobby Lobby or Wal-Mart.

Phyllis is so right. They are also fairly inexpensive and super easy to use. I have used the ones from Walmart.

I remember a long time ago seeing a tool that was used to make a hole in the fabric on one end and the grommet installer on the other end that you used a hammer on the grommets. I don't remember who had it but I bought the tool and it disappeared. I will try to find out if the tool is still in production

I have one and it was by Dritz. Everything you need comes with it except for the grommets as it depends on the size of the grommet you need. I have had mine for at least 50 years.

keep me posted if you decide to use the one I told you about. I am curious how it works for you. I used it in (through) a tool box I had and it worked great

You can also buy eyelet tape and rings this way you do not need the tool at all. You sew the tape on and use everyday fabric scissors to cut out the holes and push the front rings on. Amazon sell it https://www.amazon.co.uk/Eyelet-Heading-Curtain-choices-colour/dp/B00TPRE046/ref=sr_1_2/254-1086502-1780329?ie=UTF8&qid=1483609685&sr=8-2&keywords=eyelet+curtain+tape+with+rings

the home dec dept of any good fabric / hobby store has the grommets packs, various colors and diameters to fit what you want.. They come with a templete and details. Cutting the fabric circle, depending on what you choose, should be very accurate.. Its not hard after you get the hang of it....

Dritz makes these grommets in several metal colors and diameters. Check JoAnn's. I couldn't find ready made grommet drapes in the color I wanted. Found rod pocket drapes and bought them in a longer length. I folded the top hem down 2" more than diameter of grommets and centered grommets vertically in the fold down. This helps support the grommets and makes a nice heading. Light weight fabric may need multiple folds. Love the results!

These grommets are so easy to use. I'm not much of a seamstress and even I got it right. That is a shocker in itself.

I did the same thing, but found a grommet kit, with grommets and instructions, that was for use with tarps - heavy duty grommets, simple application. I might have ordered it from harbor freight, but probably got it on amazon (the dangerous place where 1 click buys it for you - don't let your finger hit the button until you have what you want)

@hometalk @miriam how do I put this post in my saved stuff? I don't see the "save " button. Is this a new format?

The Dritz one is great. Buy sheets or fabric cheap and made curtains all the time. Even bought sheer fabric and made screens for our gazebo for privacy!! Hung it with shower curtain rings. Saves $$$$
