Buy the cans of odor remover usually found in the Auto supply area, it's for cars but, it works for homes...It is like a bug bomb, set it and leave the house for a while with ac or heat on.

Any of the suggestions above sounds good, but you also need to wash all curtains, blinds and your clothes. When we quit we could still smell smoke on our clothes, even the coats hanging in our winter closet. Believe me you can smell it on anything that needs cleaning, Good luck.

You cannot paint over cigarette smoke. It will bleed through. You have to wash down the walls with white vinegar and rinse each time until you have clean water. Mop the floors with the same solution and rinse the same. All cloth and every porous thing in the house has to be washed in some way Then you can paint walls. Boating Block on the ceilings too. An ozone machine might help things like cabinets(wood is porous). All clothes will have to be removed and cleaned according to directions. Open windows help but you have to clean all surfaces and everything in the house. It might be worth the cost of a restoration company to take care of inside while you dry clean and wash all clothes. Don't take any clothes bedding mattresses back in there until the smell is gone. I would buy new mattresses too because they have to be stinking if you've already lived in there. Sorry. Smoke is the worst.

Walmart sells a "Smokers's candle" that REALLY works. Husband smokes cigars inside and burning at least three candles will work to remove that smoke. Friend is allergic to bacon and cooking smells. Three candles burning and she does not smell the bacon cooking. Also three burning candles removes the smell of frying fish, cooking eggs, etc. Takes at least three candles at once though for our 1400 ft. apartment.

My mom and dad were both smokers when I was growing up, in the 50s. Mom would put out a saucer of white vinegar on a side table and by morning the smell was completely gone. Something about the evaporating vinegar attaching to the smoke particles in the air and causing them to lose their odor. Nothing smelled, not clothes, furniture, carpet.

Never heard of the smokers candles but sounds good if somebody is watching the candles. I once almost started a house fire with a candle I left lit while taking a nap.

This works for all kinds of smells, I add a couple of drops of essential oils to the vinegar (bad for pets).

The suggestions are all good. If you cannot remove/steam clean the carpet, sprinkling it with borax, washing soda and essential oils really works. Leave overnight and vacuum up in the morning. You can skip the essential oils if you have pets (keep them away from the powder overnight). You may need a second application for a few hours more.
