Natural Birchwood Christmas Decorating Projects

Birchwood is another one of my favorite things. It is so versatile. It works with all kinds of decor and seasons. In the summer, it gives a “beachy” vibe and in the winter, a pile of birch logs screams plaid scarves, hot cocoa and keeping warm by the fire. Unfortunately, we don’t have any Birchwood trees in our yard BUT my aunt does and she told us she had a Birchwood tree she wanted to cut down! Woo! Woo! We didn’t hesitate to head over there to grab a ton of few branches.
I have seen a lot of different uses for Birchwood branches and logs; from end tables and curtain rods to wall hangings. With Christmas approaching, I thought it would be fun to incorporate the Birchwood into our Christmas decorating.
The first thing I did was make Birchwood ornaments. Hubby cut some “rounds” from the smaller branches.
We added “hooks” to them.
And hung them in the tree with twine.
I love the natural vibe they give our fake tree.
With some of the other rounds, I painted them with chalkboard paint.
Then, I used some paint markers and drew some whimsical Christmas pictures on them. These will be a great addition to our Christmas trees on the porch.
I also made a “Merry” garland with some of the rounds we added hooks to.
I strung the wood on some twine (tied a knot on each hook so they didn’t move) and used a brown paint marker to write the letters M-E-R-R-Y on them.
I wanted to use some of the thicker branches too so I put a few of them in an old wood box and added some pine cones and a plaid blanket.
If you don’t have access to Birchwood in your area, you could easily do any of these projects with any kind of branches you can find. These wood projects have added a lot of natural flair to our Christmas decorating this year.
