These Miniature Barn Doors Are Hiding Something

1 Material
Can you guess what it is? It's something we all have in our homes..........
These little statues know.
It's a boring old wall socket ;-)
The barn doors were made with long ice cream sticks, a skewer, some screw eye hooks, paint, scissors and wood glue.
To make the barn doors we measured the height of the wall plug, added 2 cm (7/8″) and cut the ice cream sticks using scissors. In South Africa our wall plugs are 13 cm high so we cut the ice cream sticks to be 15 cm long.

We placed the cut ice cream sticks next to each other until we had enough to cover the width of the wall plug. Once we figured out how wide each door would be we cut 5 ice cream sticks to fit across the width and used the left over bits to make 4 hinges.
The sticks were painted and glued to suit our decor and the screw eye hooks were added at the top. Then we slid the skewer through the eye hooks and added a block of wood on either end.
And our miniature barn doors were ready to be hung.
We made a ton of these over the festive season as gifts for our friends and they were a huge hit. I'd love to know what you think. Do you also try hide your wall sockets?
