I wrap mine in tissue and put in storage totes. Glass items I wrap in Bubble wrap.

10 Easy Tips for Storing Your Holiday Decorations
I have mostly all unbreakable ornaments so I store all mine in clear plastic totes by color. I just put them all in...no 'packing' unless there are some that are more in need of that. The reason I store by color is because I change my color scheme each year :-)
Like Janet above, I finally tossed all the individual little ornament boxes and now wrap each in tissue and into two large storage containers, they are safe, and time has been but in half putting up and taking down the tree!
Large Rubbermaid totes, breakable items are wrapped up in the previous years tissue and there is some old tissue in there! I did this years ago .
I keep tge package where thy came from, put them all in a box and put tgem in the garage, the basement, the attic or the closet wherever you find place
