How do you paint foam pots?

I have quite a few of the hard foam plant pots. They are looking quite rough. Anyone have experience or suggestions on painting them?

I have some on my patio. I used outdoor spray paint. Lightly sanded to get the roughness out. I also like the weathered look so I used about three different colors to and lightly sprayed to make them look aged.
I just use spray paint - several thin layers and it looks great.
