Hi all, I'm new here, so not sure if I'm doing this right! But, we're looking to create some storage under our stairs, on a really tight budget. Any ideas greatly appreciated!! Thanks

    Can you post a photo?

Here's a photo, please excuse the mess, hence why I need to sort out storage!

Assuming you have an enclosed stairwell, you will need to cut out the wall and turn it into a door, size and shape depending on if you want full opening or just a rectangle or square access.

How about wooden crates, they are about $8.00 at Walmart. Add 4 wheels to the bottoms for easy moving.

First of all, see if I can lift each step, and get items under it. Some steps lift, for a hidden storage. I love this idea. Other: you can make a storage shelf to be in line

with each step, and use this for proper storage. Don't put junk under this, keep it neat, and perhaps out of normal cookware, or certain foods, that you use at certain times per yr. Hope this helps, best wishes.

You can go to Habitat for humanity and get drawers for nothing if not cheap. Take the fronts off the drawers install rollers on the bottoms. put up plywood shelf across for each section. Using the drawers side ways should go in deep enough for storage. rows of 36" drawers might work. Otherwise crates and a door, make it a big door because you'll have to crawl if something is in the back

If you want to keep it cheap and under budget, I'd get some wood crates or even some of those plastic tubs. If they don't come with wheels, then get a furniture dolly, about $15 from a hardware store. Some hardware stores with a garden center also have planter-style dollies for large plants, or in the janitorial section, there are roll dollies for garbage cans, which can take a lot of weight. Both of these larger dollies are round, but the furniture one is rectangular, usually with some carpet nailed to it. Then, if you want to hide all that busy looking stuff, tack up a curtain or two (a split curtain, or one on velcro will make it easier to look in there and roll out your bins or drawers of stuff). Don't forget a battery stick-up light for the upper wall or ceiling. Show us the 'After'!
