Can I revive a dead Poinsettia?

Poisettias will not survive under 60 degrees.

A duartion of below 50% is the general cut off point for the typical hothouse grown poinsettia. Once gone after that, dig the hole and sqy RIP.

You might be able to bring back the plant but you won't get the red (or white) foliage unless you go through the steps ~ total darkness, for 14 hours each day, starting about eight weeks before you want to display them.

I'm afraid it's done. :( Did you know these plants are actually shrubs from Mexico? They were never intended to be an indoor house plant but over time became popular as one. I keep mine in my greenhouse here in TN. I have over wintered them over 2 years now and they seem to do fine. I have indoor cats and they won't leave houseplants alone. The temp in the greenhouse runs around 55 degrees and they handle it fine. But anything under that would be deadly.

Poinsettias are tropical. Yours probably belongs in the compost bin now. RIP

it really depends on how long it was kept in the garage! If it was just a night, it's worth bringing it in and watering it IF soil is dry but more than a night (two nights maximum!) , it's probably dead. In the future, remember just because a plant sheds all its leaves, the roots can still be alive but it depend entirely on the plant, how long it was "abused" :) and so on.

Hi Linda: If there are any live roots, you may be able to save it. Being very careful, remove the dead bits and repot the roots in fresh potting soil that has good drainage. Poinsettias are susceptible to stem and root diseases if the soil is heavy and retains excess moisture. Soak the soil well, and then allow all excess water to drain away. You may be able to reuse the soil that the plant had originally. Place the plant in a warm, sunny spot for renewed growth. However, it may not turn red again, as they have a short shelf life. If you are going to keep it inside, they like a south, east, or west exposure. I hope this works for you, but if not, at least you've tried.
