Fireplace Refresh

The Cofran Home

One of the reasons we fell in love with our new house when we were first looking was the beautiful wood work it had in the family room. The crown molding and the fireplace mantel were two big things that stuck out in our head – in a good way! However, the whole house was oak everything. It was not bad, it just wasn’t our style but we knew it would be an easy fix.
So, here’s what our family room looked like when we bought our house…
Not bad, right? Just not great. We decided to paint the mantel and trim white – and WHAT a difference!
We picked Sherwin Williams Light French Gray for the walls, the same color we used in our Living Room. I LOVE the color with the white mantel and trim.

And here’s how our room looks now!
I really think this easy update made such a difference in this room. The fireplace is such a beautiful focal point, and painting it white really made it pop!
We kept the existing fireplace screen, and the same tile – so this makeover was easy on our bank account! (Always a win!)
Now we LOVE snuggling up to our newly refreshed fireplace with some hot chocolate and a family movie!

Hi, where did you get the stand for the firewood? Your fireplace is beautiful.

What color and manufacturer wall paint did you use? I love it and that white mantle makes the room completely different. I'm also interested in knowing about the sprayer and how much or little "over spray" there was. I'm considering painting our orangy oak kitchen cabinets.

Looks beautiful, I would like to update a full brick wall with fireplace to white but hesitate to paint all that brick, any recommendations?

    Your new look is inspiring.

I really like how it turned out. Very fresh looking with the white and the gray walls. I am a big fan of white paint.

I like it, too. My condo was built 20 years ago and is all oak trim. One of the first things I did was paint the oak mantle and it made a HUGE difference.
