Thank you for the suggestion, however too many houses in subdivision has that in their window. Wanting something no one else has in their window,

What is your style?Do you want something for storage?Do you want to use it for a tv? More information is needed to help you.

  • Destpete4 Destpete4 on Jan 15, 2017

Do not need storage, and the tv is in the family room, the room is painted a medium blue with a lighter blue on the ceiling, the living room and the dinning room is combined, one large room.

    Any ideas are appreciated

    Thank you.

I do not know how large your window is or what your taste is - but I have always loved a picture window that looks like this one with cushions and pillows.

  • Lindcurt Lindcurt on Jan 16, 2017

Mine has always had plants. They like light and I like plants.

Don't worry about being different, just do what you want, what pleases you, after all you are the one who will have to live with it. I have floor to ceiling windows on the south side of my house for passive solar gain in the winter. It is a great place to grow my ginger, lemon grass and turmeric. My cats also like to look out at the birds I feed and the occassional coon, opossum and deer that come onto the deck.

I think the right curtains can transform the room. You can pick up on the color of the furniture and tie the room together in a subtle, lovely way

  • Destpete4 Destpete4 on Jan 16, 2017

My curtains are tie in with the furniture and the walls, just wanting something different to put in front of the window,

  • Joanie Joanie on Jan 17, 2017

Do you have a large statue or a fern stand with a fern or plant........a tall floor lamp, a stepladder with items of your choice, hanging plants.....

Stenciling in corners or to your liking????

    • Destpete4 Destpete4 on Jan 18, 2017

I have stencil in other areas of the my home, the corners are too far away to make a difference, My living room and dinning room is one long room,

  • Jeannie.mcquaid Jeannie.mcquaid on Jan 17, 2017

Look for a sculpture that appeals to you and suits the furnishing style of the room. Something wrought iron, enameled metal or wood carved might work.

  • Destpete4 Destpete4 on Jan 17, 2017

Thanks , I like that. Something to add to my g sale list.

I love the idea of stencils, for sure! And I have a great idea! As you know this is THE spot for christmas trees, how about a gorgeous indoor tree with subtle stunning lights or flower lights, see pic?! (could not find a good example pic but you can envision and indoor tree from lowes, etc with lights on it) You could also put beautiful little realistic birds from Micheal's on it. Place the lights so they light up the birds. The tree will be visible as a drive by and you will be the envy! You could also hang pretty flowering plants if there is room on top! And/or the fairy light curtain idea shown in the photo.

  • Destpete4 Destpete4 on Jan 17, 2017

Oh, I like that, I have a big silk tree and lots of small white Christmas tree lights.

    Thank you.

Your post got me curious so I started looking at windows as I drove down a street. Mostly there were blinds or curtains. One house, a large Victorian, had a very simple white eight pointed star in the window. Another had a stained glass picture. Obviously only meant to be enjoyed from the indoors looking out. It was too small and too intricate of a pattern to be seen from the outdoors. I guess there are different things in windows I just had never noticed. Now guess what I'm going to be doing as I drive down random streets in town.

    • Destpete4 Destpete4 on Jan 18, 2017

Please let me know if you see something unique or unusual.

      Thanks

  • Joanie Joanie on Jan 19, 2017

My parents back in the day (the 60's), had a VERY long living room with coved ceilings and a LARGE picture window also. They ended up hangin' a beautiful bird feeder outside the window and added sheer curtains. Soooooo, I was really tryin' to put an effort in to helpin' you be Unique, but I can see YOU WILL have to figure out your own taste.......are you country, modern, rustic, trendy? Good Luck Pete!!

I would place a larger metallic sculpture it will reflect light. Yes please in 2017 don't put a lamp nor a plant there. Glass sculptures are awesome if handblown.

  • Destpete4 Destpete4 on Jan 22, 2017

Thank you. I like that. I did not want to put a lamp or plant there,

    I wanted something different.

  • Destpete4 Destpete4 on Jan 22, 2017

    • Joanie Joanie on Feb 02, 2017

Destpete4: I believe it was that stain glass kit? It has been a while. The paints aren't cheap, but the ending results are BEAUTIFUL!

I have a old treadle sewing machine I got when I bought my first home. Still in great condition, and I have some lace on top with some Christmas or Easter Cactus I had gotten from my mom. They love that window.

  • Destpete4 Destpete4 on Jan 24, 2017

Thanks however I do not a treadle sewing machine.

    Cool idea.

humming bird feeders mounted on the exterior window? other bird feeders and a butterfly feeder? there are 1 way privacy films that you can put on windows, the critters can't see you, but u can watch them.

On the floor as furnishing? A bookcase on which you can add rectangle planter(s) -- consider glass front doors so shelves can be used as a curio cabinet. Used upscale overhead kitchen cabinets w/new top could work.

Shop Habitat for Humanity and larger church sponsored thrift stores for ideas and bargains.

Within the window frame in front of the glass? You could paint used windows to create a faux stained glass hanging. Add one or more smaller inexpensive stained glass pieces to existing glass and glue painted wire in place for panels and other features.

Destpete 4: How about a sliding Barn Door to close at night. Make sure during the day, some of the doors show. Very rustic and rare for a window. If you need privacy at night ya got it. In the center hang something farmish, for the hoe, hoe. ;))

a beautiful picture table or plant stand.

  • Mary Insana Mary Insana on Feb 11, 2017

What about a decorative table that you like and fits the space and put different height chunky pillar candle holders and put battery operated pillar candles. I have a vintage trunk in my dining room as a coffee table and I have 5 Mercury glass pillar candle holders with candles with timers. It's always nice to walk through the living room and see them on.

  • Erin Erin on Feb 12, 2017

A pretty folding screen would be nice. Not one that covers the window but adds a bit of privacy and looks pretty from outside.

  • Joanie Joanie on Feb 13, 2017

Despete4: You're keeping my brain in 3rd gear.... How about an array of long beads to cover your window, instead of curtains,( a huge selection of ideas to hang!!).......You'll have yourself a Harem effect??? Then hang your odd light hangin' from the ceiling. I think it sounds different?????

Find the prettiest biggest clear vase and put about 3 inches of beach sand...then all light colored sea shells. The bigger the vase...the bigger the focal point! Good luck!!then surround with family photos
