How can I store my empty gas cans?

We have 12, 5 gallon gas cans from past hurricanes. Does anyone have an idea on how to store them with out taking up floor space?

I have a collection of old gas cans. I now have them showcased in my she shed, but before that I displayed them in a shady spot in the garden.

    1. The number one thing that people need to remember is empty gas cans or more dangerous that cans with gas. You may think I am crazy but you can put a match in a can with gasoline and it will go our, but put a match in an empty can and it will explode. I know it sounds crazy but I have tried it when I was a voluntary fireman in Hot Springs, AR and taking classes for a fire marshall.

First of all, be sure they are EMPTY .. secondly, you can place under a front porch, do not keep this in the house., or ask a fireman, he may have ideas, or even begin a program that will help others, too.

I have a detached shed in the back yard to store them and a few in my courtyard that has an open roof. If you vent them fumes will not build up, mine have a small black screw on vent at the back of the container.

I would contact the fire dept for storage ideas. They can see what you have to work with.

Maybe make totem poles with them in the garden?
