I do a lot of canning and I am left with a black ring of carbon on my stove top and down in around burners. I have a gas stove. I have tried scrubbing with many different kinds of chemicals/powders/soaps...and I still can't get the black off my stove top! Can anyone help???

Dollar General sells a product called 'AWESOME'. I spray this full strength, let it sit for a few,3? minutes. It does have fumes and for some jobs it's recommended that it be diluted. After 3 minutes or so, if needed, I use the scrub part of a sponge to get tough spots and wipe up the mess with a paper towel. Don't let it sit too long as it will dry up, but you can respray. Also, I've found that if I wipe up spills as soon as I can after cooking or canning, the stovetop is warm and it's easier to clean. Only once when I'd let it build up too much, I had to use a stainless steel scrunchy type scrubber but be careful it doesn't scratch the stovetop. Sorry this is so long.

Make a paste with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Slather the on the carbon, let it set for at least half an hour, then wipe. Repeat as necessary.

Have tried that too. Didn't work getting the black carbon off......I do a major amount of canning....and it is a couple of years worth of canning stains....as a result of a high burner on for good lengths of time. No problem, thanks for your thoughts.

If haven't already try making a paste with baking soda and water, try barkeepers friend ,or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

can you remove any parts. If yes put them in zip lock bag, spray with oven cleaner the king you get at the dollar store. Seal the bag let sit overnight. I clean my grates and caps like this. I have also sprayed some oven cleaner on a rag and cleaned my gas stove.

It is not the burners. I can take the burners off..and it is the 'dip' in the stove top around the burner that I can't get cleaned. My lungs won't handle oven cleaners...throws me into asthma attack....can't do that route. Thanks for helping!

I had the same problem on my gas stove. This is what I used & it worked great! Make a "paste" of Vinegar & Cream of Tartar, 2-3 tsp. each in small bowl. (You can double or triple for the amount needed for the job.) i spread it evenly, completely covering the gunk on my stove top, left it sit for about 15 minutes. Try scrubbing a spot to start loosening the gunk & see if it is starting to work. If your burner areas are as bad as you say, it may take awhile for it to loosen it up. It will take some elbow grease as well!! (I used a green scrarch pad/scrubber, paper towel or even a Magic Eraser). You may have to repeat this a few times but it does work!!! Wipe clean with a damp cloth. I hope this helps AND works for you as I know your frustratlon with it!!! Good Luck

It's possible the area around the burners has overheated and scorched the paint. You mentioned asthma, so you may consider getting a friends help for this, my suggestions are; remove the stove-top (most can be removed with minimal effort), move outside & use oven cleaner. If that doesn't work because the paint is scorched, consider painting with high-temp paint (such as engine paint). I've used a lot of cook-stoves over the years, many of them older with the paint/porcelain finish burned off. On one, I taped off the square burners & just sprayed the immediate burner area with black engine paint, it looked really good!

I have had a similar problem. I use powdered dishwasher detergent - make a paste and cover with cling wrap. Keep it moist as best you can (I occasionally just squirt a little water to rehydrate the paste). Leave overnight and it should just wipe off the next morning.
