Under layer needed in hardwood floor install on second floor ?
should we have under layer placed for sound barrier/insulation improvement instead of just the paper usually used. the flooring will be nailed. unsure if extra cost is worth the results. any thoughts ? suggestions ? thank you

Kimberly A on Dec 10, 2013We installed hardwood floor throughout our house, all floors. We only used the paper and have not noticed any additional noise from when the carpets were upstairs. Hope this helps. Enjoy your new floors!Helpful Reply

Building Moxie on Dec 10, 2013@Sharon Verash In an active household, I could see a huge benefit to adding a soundproofing layer. Great idea. Cork underlayment would be worth pricing and what I'd consider somewhat of a traditional option. http://www.homedepot.com/p/QEP-200-sq-ft-1-4-in-Cork-Underlayment-Roll-72000/100645274#.Uqc7c_RDs-I I attended a soundproofing seminar earlier in the year and there are certainly other options (used more commonly in the multi-family settings) though I have never seen or been involved in an install of it, something like this >> http://soundproofing.org/infopages/reduce_floor_noise_with_our_underlayments.htmHelpful Reply
